the Premiership is not a tournament.. its a league based on points.. the top four qualify to play in the Champions League in Europe.. the next ones down qualify to play in the Europa cup in Europe.
The team with the most points at the end of the season wins the league.
The bottom teams face relegation.. being demoted to the Championship league, and their top teams replace those demoted.
There is also a knock out cup within all English leagues called the Carling Cup, and the prestigious FA Cup. These are tournaments.
Personally, start by concentrating on the Premiership, and you will pick things up. All clubs have their own websites.. so if you need team info go to them.
